10. 11. 2014

Štátny tajomník MŠVVaŠ SR Juraj Draxler na TVT 2014Opening ceremony of the Week of Science and Technology in Slovakia 2014 took place on 10 November 2014 at 9:00 on the premises of the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information (SCSTI) in Bratislava.

State secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic Juraj Draxler said in his opening speech following: “2014 is the year of beginnings as we enter the second decade of organizing nationwide, and it can be said also globally, successful event, which is the Week of Science and Technology taking place from 10 to 16 November 2014.

This year, in the framework of the Week of Science and Technology, several events are going to take place for the first time and I hope they will find popularity among a wide audience. I can imagine that the event “Interactive scientific presentations”, with its attractive and eye-catching demonstration, will attract interest of not only our youngest students, but also adults.

One of the main events of this week is the National conference entitled “ICT and internet economy in the context of science and technology for development of economy and society”, aimed at providing a forum for discussion to support research, development and innovation, as a basic precondition for improving the quality of life and increasing the competitiveness of Slovakia. Connecting countries of the Danube region will be brought closer by workshop on “Danube strategy – countries’ cooperation”. The conference will culminate with awarding of the Science and Technology 2014 Award, which will be given to personalities of science and technology, scientific and technical teams and young researchers. To those, who deserve our attention, favor and support.

In addition to various popularizing events, which took place not only in the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information, but across whole Slovakia as well, we can look forward to the premiere of the “Science Film Festival”, which will be a pleasant ending of the Week of Science and Technology. Wide public will be able to see the work of our scientists live through the Open Days, lectures, seminars and exhibitions organized by several dozens of the Slovak Academy of Sciences’ institutes and universities, which are part of more than 360 side events organized in all regions of Slovakia.

There are enough young people interested in science and technology in Slovakia and their quantity rises also thanks to events like this. The Week of Science and Technology is not only for scientists, but it should also serve as an inspiration for future young researchers and all those yearning for new horizons brought by science, technology and innovations.

The political will to support science, technology and innovations is not only at national, but also at international level. This is related to the efforts of our government and relevant ministries in uneasy preparation of a wide variety of legislative, systemic and organizational changes, which need to be finalized shortly. Our ministry is going to focus on these changes this and next year. I wish successful managing to all concerned in the event and rich, interesting and inspiring experience to all participants.”
