31. 10. 2014

A traveler to the depths of the earth, a mysteries hunter and a narrator of the mythical epos about Gilgamesh – three people, three top researchers and also three freshly awarded popularizers of science in the Czech Republic. This honor was given to them on Thursday 23 October 2014 and its official title is “Award of the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences for Promotion and Popularization of Research, Experimental Development and Innovation for the Year 2014”.

Leading researchers are already by their scientific potential a great benefit to the area they are devoted to. However, in case they are able to impart this knowledge to the general public in the form of eye-catching “detective story”, a kind of added value is being born that can awaken the people’s interest in the topics, which may rather discourage outsiders by their complexity at first glance.

The expert commission assesses in the given context their life’s work. Proposals of Laureates are submitted by directors of departments of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic after discussion in the departments’ councils, thereinafter Scientific Council of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Council for the Popularization of Science of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
