Minister of Education J. Draxler solely opened the Science and Technology Week 2015

Today - November 9th, 2015 at 9.00 am in Bratislava - was opened the Science and Technology Week in Slovakia 2015. The main organizer is the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic in cooperation with the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information of SR (SCSTI SR) and the National Centre for the Popularisation of Science and Technology in Society.

This year's Science and Technology Week (TVT) is dedicated to a light - on an occasion of the International Year of Light. For the first time, TVT 2015 opening ceremony was held in the premises of the Science Centre of SCSTI SR, Bojnická 3, Bratislava.

Minister školstva Juraj Draxler otvoril TVT 2015Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sport SR Juraj Draxler in his speech pointed out that already the twelfth time in Slovakia takes place an unique event aimed at promoting of science and research and thus approach of this unique world to the general public. The November Science and Technology Week provides a good opportunity to address  especially young people and get them for a career in science.

Furthermore, inter alia, he said: "Research and innovations are becoming an increasingly important capital and the component of our economy. It is therefore desirable that we in Slovakia, capture this trend and attract attention of the public and in particular children and young people to this area.

During this year, new opportunities have been opened to the scientific community. For period 2014 - 2020, new operating program starts from the structural funds of European Union called characteristically Research and Innovations. We also finish building of science parks around universities, from the beginning also designed to support  an applied research and transfer of innovations into practice. Moreover, they will bring new jobs opportunities just for young scientists."

Talent and achieved successes of Slovak scientists deserve according to the Slovak Minister of Education adequate appreciation, which in itself reflects the prestige and due respect. In this context, he pointed out that "the amount of the prizes awarded in science during the year, weaken the authority and due seriousness, that the position of scientist in Slovak society deserves." That's why he decided not to award the Award for Science and Technology this year and he will replace it next year by an award, which underlines an importance of Slovak science.

The opening ceremony of the Science and Technology Week, in addition to the Minister of Education Juraj Draxler and the Managing Director of the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information of SR prof. RNDr. Ján Turňa, CSc., was attended by guests: the Vice-President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences for Research prof. RNDr. Eva Majková, Dr.Sc., the Rector of the Comenius University in Bratislava and the Vice-President of the Slovak Rectors´ Conference RNDr. Karol Mičieta, PhD., the Chairman of the Higher Education Council doc. RNDr. Martin Putala, Csc., the Chairman of the Association of Research and technically oriented universities prof. Ing. Robert Redhammer, PhD., the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Association of research and Development Industrial Organizations Ing. Jaromír Markovič, PhD., the President of the The Association of Slovak Scientific and Technological Societies prof. Ing. Dušan Petráš, PhD., EUR ING, the Managing Director of the Association of research organizations of non-profit sector Ing. Peter Klamo. An invitation also accepted: Michel Bologna, the manager of external relations and sustainable development of Slovenské elektrárne, a member of ENEL Group, that is already several years a major partner of TVT; doc. Ing. Jozef Ristvej, PhD., the Chairman of the civic association AMAVET, which is the main organizer of the Festival of Science and Technology and as the Vice-Rector of the University of Žilina takes the patronage over the National Conference Scientix; and doc. Ing. Štefan Rosina, PhD.,the Chairman and President of company MATADOR HOLDING.

Ján Turňa, the Managing Director of  SCSTI SR and one of the main organizers of the Science and Technology Week in Slovakia.

Before starting the laser show, guests on stage caught in the palm a laser ray of light and symbolically opened the Science and Technology Week in Slovakia. Presenter on this occasion stated that "the whole Slovakia should become enthusiastic about the Slovak science, so we can jointly make it more visible at home and abroad."

In the Science Centre SCSTI SR had also took place an opening ceremony of the Festival of Science and Technology AMAVET - presentations of research projects of secondary school students, as well as the National Conference Scientix, under the auspices of the University of Žilina.

Other events taking place within the TVT in Slovakia were an interactive exhibition full of interesting exhibits called the Science Untraditionally, an exhibition Nanormal world or performance of one of the greatest scientific personalities of the former Czechoslovakia and the father of contact lenses Otto Wichterle. In SCSTI  SR, Lamačská cesta 8/A will take place an event called Thursday with a molecular biomedicine.

For those, who are interested in science and cinematography, is waiting the second year of Science Film Festival. In parallel with these events in the premises of the Small Stage Theatre STU (Divadlo Malá scéna STU) in Bratislava takes pace the second annual Science Film Festival. Science in less traditional light will be presented during evaluation of art, photography and graphic design competitions. A humorous look on the work of scientists and researchers will introduce the contest for the best scientific image joke on theme Experiment.

Also in this year will take place a series of events intended primarily to the scientific community. TVT 2015 accompanying events take place across the country. Institutes of the Slovak Academy of Sciences will be also opened to the visitors.
