A well-known historiographer prof. PhDr. Dušan Škvarna, PhD., from the Department of History at the Faculty of Arts of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, will have a lecture about Ľudovít Štúr in the Science Café on Thursday, 24.09.2015 at 17.00 o´clock. Professionally, he is interested in the history of the 19th century, in particular the formation of modern Slovak nation, creation its policy, ideology and symbols. He will introduce Štúr as one of the most all-round personalities of public figures in Central Europe in his time as well as the most vivid personality of Slovak national life in the mid-19th century.

Just this year, in October, it will be exactly 200 years since the birth of Ľudovít Štúr. We learn about him from primary school, we know him as a teacher, journalist, historian, writer, linguist and codifier of standard Slovak language or and a member of Ugrian council. But we know him as a brave, integrity, tenacity and incorruptible man.

In the September Science in the CENTRE, we will introduce Ľudovít Štúr as a patriot who had contributed substantially to the modernization of Slovakia. Had had the largest interest in defining the emancipation of the Slovak nation before the year 1848. To fulfil his vision he had decided previously in the Slovak national movement untested methods of operations and innovative forms of communication. We will introduce his various activities in several angles. We will try to answer the question why Štúr became emblematic personality of modern Slovak history and what else except for the language is "alive" today and what we should consider when thinking about running your own history.

We invite you to the Science Café called the Science in the CENTRE, that the National Centre for Popularisation of Science and Technology in Society a department of SCSTI SR organizes for the general public in the premises of the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information of SR (SCSTI SR) in Bratislava once a month.
